St. Joseph’s Minor Seminary, Zaria on Saturday, February 2 held her inter-house sports competition.
Addressing the gathering, the Catholic Bishop of Zaria Dioceses, Most Rev. George Jonathan Dodo, commended the management for encouraging sports in the school and urged them to maintain the tempo. He recalled his school days in the minor seminary in the 70s and said he was proud to be associated with the school thereby encouraging the management to further initiate ideas that could transform the school. He later commended the participants of the competition for coming out en masse.
On his part, the rector of the seminary, Very Rev. Fr. Istifanus Katung, thanked the Bishop for his presence, which he said was a morale booster and equally commended the organising committee, headed by Fr. Patrick Atama, for their efforts. He equally appreciated the participants, especially those invited from other schools to participate in the competition. He said sports under his watch would continue to be given priority in the school and hoped that next year’s inter-house sports competition would be better than this year.
At the end of the competition, Fr. Obrien’s House emerged winner, Bishop Abba’s House came second, St. Mary’s House third and St. Martin’s House took the 4th position.
The sports competed for were long jump, triple jump, shot put, discus, javelin, 800m, 300m, 4X400m, 200m final, 100m final et cetera for junior and senior categories.
Other schools who participated in the competition were, seat of Wisdom Academy, FGGC Zaria, Redemption College Zaria, Christ College Emanto, St. Bartholomew Wusasa, Blessing Arziki School Kwangila and others.
Distribution of prizes, certificates and trophies to the winning Houses and schools and climaxed the event.
